On November 8 Charlie Mathews of the Herald Times Reporter interviewed 4 members of the Lakeshore Lay Synod. Jim Sustman, Jean Rausch, Nancy Slattery and Karen Vater talked about some of the issues that were discussed at the Lay Synod held on October 27, 2007. Lakeshore Lay synod Convenes

On Saturday, October 27, the Lakeshore Lay synod met for the first time. Thirty-two lay Catholic faithful gathered at the Holiday Inn to hear Lena Woltering and Sr. Kate Kuenstler explain their rights and responsibilities according to Canon Law. The speakers were followed by sharing sessions where those present expressed their concerns and also their dreams. The day ended with a general feeling of renewed hope for our future as church.

Thirteen people volunteered to begin the planning for the next lay synod to be held on February 23, 2008. The venue for this gathering has yet to be determined.

Holiday Inn, 4601 Calumet Ave, Manitowoc, WI

Our morning plenary session will explain the responsibilities we all face as faith-filled Catholics. Following that we will hold break-out sessions focusing on specific areas of concern.

The afternoon plenary session presented by a Canon lawyer, will explore our rights as laity. Subsequent break-out sessions will focus on how to share what we have learned with our individual parish communities and what we can do next.
